Seychelles on the Sea Shore

October 27, 2008

At Rhino Africa, we are always on the lookout for new destinations and products to provide you with the ultimate African holiday. As such we have broadened our website to include the Indian Ocean Islands and first up is the Seychelles, a stunning collection of 115 islands scattered in the deep blue sea off the east coast of Africa. Mauritius, Madagascar and the Maldives will follow shortly – watch this space!

A perfect compliment to an East African Safari, or a stand-alone trip, the Seychelles offer the tropical island escape you have always dreamed of. White silky sands stretch out from beneath your feet to a shimmering oasis of the Indian Ocean – a picture perfect postcard!

There are a large variety of luxury lodges, five-star hotels and rustic retreats on the islands. Most travellers tend to stay on Mahe, the largest island and home to the capital Victoria and the international airport, so you will pass through here on your Seychelles adventure.

Praslin is the second largest island and home to the breathtaking Vallee de Mai – once believed to be the original site of ‘The Garden of Eden’ – and it certainly lives up to its heavenly reputation. It is home to the Coco de Mer, the world’s heaviest nut which has a wickedly suggestive shape, and the rare black parrot, found nestling in the lush rainforest.

La Digue is a much smaller and more remote getaway, famous for its oxcart taxis and relaxed way of life – it really does feel like stepping back in time on this secluded island! Beautiful beaches and granite boulders combine to create the most amazing landscapes.

All these islands are easy to reach. Mahe is serviced by many international airlines – and there are regular charter flights to Praslin, just 12 minutes away, and La Digue, just 12 minutes from Praslin. So combining these 3 islands on your Indian Ocean extravaganza is as easy as that!

There are an array of water sports and excursions for the adventure enthusiasts, such as snorkelling, scubadiving, deep sea fishing, rainforest hikes and great catamaran cruises. Feast yourself silly on the freshest seafood, and when you’ve had your fill, lounge back on your deckchair as the sun slowly meanders below the horizon on another unforgettable day at your exclusive island resort.

So swap your suit for swimwear and let the Seychelles mesmerise you with its magic!
