Some things in life are impossible to adequately describe – like holding your child for the first time, getting an Olympic medal or getting that peppercorn out of your teeth.

An African safari is also one of those indescribably beautiful experiences. As Andrew, Helen and Emily Weissenberger from Brisbane recently found out. A safari had been on the family’s bucket list for a few years and so they booked a trip that included stops in Cape Town, The Kruger National Park, Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. They share their story and photos of Africa with us…

The Weissenberger family on a safari in Africa

“Our African adventure began in Cape Town and our love affair with Africa was born. Beautiful scenery, unique experiences, and exquisite food and wine was a great way to start our journey as we explored Cape Town and the surrounds including the Winelands and the Cape of Good Hope, not to forget some close encounters with great whites at Gansbaai!”

Franschhoek farm workers “Our next stop was Kapama Southern Camp in the Kruger region – and it exceeded all our expectations. The cold of early morning safari starts was soon forgotten with warm blankets, hot water bottles, and jaw-dropping sunrises. The Big 5 were conquered in the first 2 days plus many more. It is impossible to describe in words the emotions evoked as we had the privilege to observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. It was everything we had hoped for and more – and all in style!”

The “Flight of the Angels” helicopter ride was certainly a highlight and the best way to see this amazing natural wonder. White water rafting on the wild Zambezi river was an experience we will never forget – or was it the climb out of the gorge that was more memorable?”
Whitewater Rafting with Wild Horizons at Victoria FallsWatching the majestic Victoria Falls is joyous “We were told that Chobe would satisfy our elephant craving and our next stop did not disappoint. Sun dipping on the horizon as herds of elephants play in the Chobe River will forever be entrenched in our memories of Africa.”In Africa, watch herds of elephants drinking at the river

African sunset with an elephant“Our final leg of our adventure took us to the breathtaking Okavango Delta. From the air, in our light plane, we could spot elephants, giraffe, and hippos on the land and waterways of this emerald paradise. Our continuing safari experiences only got better – including a lioness chasing a cheetah and her 3 cubs, and a leopard and her cub stalking an elephant! Again all experienced in luxury with warm African hospitality at Nxabega.

“They say that Africa gets into your blood – and it certainly has with us. We will be back!”Let me have a bite! Two lion cubs in AfricaA Leopard in a treeHear a roaring lion at night in AfricaLion pride walking next to game vehicleA lion cub with beautiful eyes
