I recently visited the Shamwari (meaning “friend” in Shona) Game Reserve on the Garden Route and was lucky enough to stay in two of their seven luxury lodges. We left the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, also in the Eastern Cape, and took a back road short cut to access Shamwari. It was about an hour’s drive past scenic bush and other game reserves.

I recently headed up from Cape Town to the Garden Route to film the lodges and safaris on offer in this part of southern Africa. Firstly, I must say, flying from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth for this self-drive safari experience along the Garden Route and its surrounds is definitely the best way to go. Once in PE, the lodges are all very close together and easily accessible. And you don’t need a 4×4… although it would be nice.

Brad’s Grill – Great Steakhouse

The best steak in town!

I do mean it when I say, this was the best steak I have ever had. I cant recall having a better steak anywhere. It even beats the one I had at 1800 in Greenpoint. It’s no wonder that Brad’s Grill in Claremont has people coming back again and again for its carnivorous offerings.
