Okavango and Chobe Lodges

by Sian Bester

I recently had the great privilege of going on a fantastic trip through the Okavango Delta, Savute, Chobe and Livingstone areas.

Luckily the trip was planned in such a way that we where forced to relax and actually enjoy the lodges as well as the amazing surroundings that we were in.

I have highlighted 2 of my favourite lodges while on my travels Camp Okavango and Chobe Game Lodge.

Camp Okavango is situated on remote Nxaragha Island in the heart of the permanent Okavango Delta, assuring a year-round water wilderness experience. A perfect camp to enjoy pure relaxation. An open-air patio and lounge area provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy nights around the camp fire and enjoy the sounds of the night.

The Okavango Delta is arguably the finest wilderness wetland in the world; renowned as a haven for rare species such as the elusive sitatunga antelope and the Pel's fishing owl, the Delta is also a bird-watchers paradise. All game-viewing activities are conducted by experienced resident guides and include exploring the Okavango by canoe and river craft on wildlife and bird-watching expeditions. Guided nature walks on the islands of the Delta afford an opportunity to track some of the larger species that inhabit this water wilderness. Another fun filled activity is trying your hand at Tiger Fishing.

From Camp Okavango enjoy a very relaxing flight over the Delta, Savuti and Chobe areas and arrive in Kasane ready to embrace your Chobe experience. The flight takes a maximum of an hour but, these flights are argubly the best way to view the delta and get a perspective of just how vast and spectacular the area is.

Situated on the Chobe River in the North Eastern corner of Botswana's Chobe National Park, and twenty kilometers upstream from the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers is Chobe Game Lodge.

It is home to the largest concentration of Elephant in Africa and during the dry season the herds congregate along the fertile flood plains of the Chobe River. Large herds of Buffalo also concentrate on the floodplains during the dry season. Other major species such as Lion, Wild Dog, Puku, Red Lechwe, Sable and Roan Antelope are encountered in many areas of the reserve.

Chobe Game Lodge boasts a wonderful entertainment area with beautiful open patios that overlook the floodplains. The boma (which is more commonly known as a outdoor eating area) is situated on the banks of the Chobe River and every guest should have the experience of dining under the skies while in Chobe.

Another fantastic attribute of Chobe Game Lodge was the great meals and excellent service from all the staff...

This was truly a magical experience and would love to extend it onto you!!!!
