I have just recently returned to South Africa after having lived in London for a while and then travelling the world for 6 years. I worked for a luxury cruise line that did world cruising so I have been fortunate enough to see the world many times over....well that is everywhere except Africa. Since I started working for Rhino Africa, I have had the opportunity of going on educational trips and I am just in awe of the properties & destinations I have seen so far and the sheer luxuriousness they offer. It has made traveling fun for me again after becoming a little jaded and taking things for granted on ships. It is true that game lodges in South Africa have redefined luxury and no surpise that many of them are found in the top 100 properties as per a recent Conde Naste Traveler Magazine reader poll. The amazing thing here is that nothing seems to be too big a problem and anything can be done, unless it's logistically impossible. There is something to be said for African hospitality and you find it everywhere you travel here, not only in the uber-luxury properties. First time travelers usually have a preconcieved mental image, thanks greatly to negative media coverage of the continent, of what to expect and quite often have a long list of concerns whilst making their travel plans. Once they have been to Africa just once, they realise that many of their concerns were unfounded and instead, they discovered a place of great beauty with gentle, smiling people. I love planning trips for people and want everyone to experience the Africa that I know and am getting to know.
