The same weekend as visiting Franschhoek, we were able to also take a quick journey to Hermanus (the whale-watching town) along the south coast. It is roughly 1h45 minutes from Cape Town however it is probably only 1 hour from Franschhoek by road, depending on the route you take. We stayed 1 night at the Birkenhead House, which has breath-taking views for as far as the eye can see.
The house is exceptionally designed on a cliff-face so you are able to feel like you are hanging over the ocean and being so high up, it has a dramatic effect looking over the vastness of the ocean! The prices are on the expensive side for staying here however you definitely feel it is worthwhile when you look at this view and are able to enjoy all your meals (all meals are included in the rate) from this outstanding viewpoint! Another great sell point for them is that they are a stone’s throw away from small beaches, if you are looking for a place to sun tan during summer, definitely a draw-card!
I hope you feel inspired to travel to the beautiful Western Cape and explore the many attractions that I have been fortunate to explore myself!
