Nature's Valley - A Hidden Paradise
by Sian Bester
April brought about a small road trip from Cape Town along the Garden Route to THE most amazing place I have beento in a long time - NATURES VALLEY.
My boyfriend and I are big campers and he always seems to know the right spots. This camp site and whole area actually, was more than I ever expected.
Nature's Valley is a small village situated at the mouth of the Groot River at the bottom of the Groot River pass alongside the Groot River estuary and forms part of the Tsitsikamma De Vasselot nature reserve.
The famous Otter Trail ends in and most hikers seek accommodation in Natures Valley after doing the Otter trail to rest up before moving on.
Nature's Valley is 29km from Plettenberg Bay on the Port Elizabeth side next to a beautiful lagoon on the Indian Ocean, enfolded with mountainous forest with rich fauna flora and bird watchers paradise.
Arguably the most beautiful part of the Garden Route in South Africa, Nature's Valley is unique in that it lies nestled in the Tsitsikamma National Park coastal forest, There are plentiful scenic walks and you can be revitalised by soul inspiring walkabout in this true garden on the Garden Route. Rest assured you can enjoy a safe exploration of Nature.
We did manage to arrive in Nature's Valley during the wettest weekend, but this did not stop us. Instead we decided to navigate the Groot River dressed in attire to survive Mnt Everest. The river was absolutely spectacular the higher up we went, with high cliffs and tropical like vegetation. I would recommend that you navigate this river when the water levels are slightly higher (or take a strong lad with who will be willing to pull their girlfriends over rocks and shallow waters) and the weather is better, for those of you who are fair weather adventurers.
Apart from the hikes as I have mentioned above, the beaches are endless and mountain biking is another great alternative.
I can gaurantee you that this place will be enjoyed by everyone who visits and keep you coming back for more.....
