Last week I had the good fortune of being invited to dinner at Jardine Restaurant in Cape Town's Bree Street. A friend of mine is a well known food critic and was looking for a ‘ date’ for the evening ! Not one to pass up the opportunity of a free meal, I was very happy to oblige , especially as Jardine Restaurant’s chef won “ Chef of the Year’ in the Eat Out Magazine.
We had a fantastic meal, and the whole experience was delightful.
My starter was a Beetroot and Horseradish Tart, which is one of their signature dishes – whilst my companion opted for Warthog Belly. Both starters were delicious, beautifully plated and tasted superb. For main course we choose Beef Fillet Bourdalaise with Bone Marrow, and Rump of Lamb. These dishes were accompanied by a perfectly chilled Pinotage Wine. Purely in the interests of giving the restaurant a complete review, I choose the ' Inside Out Jaffa Cake” a perfect blend of Jaffa Segment, Sponge and Rich Chocolate Mousse.
Jardine Restaurant has its own Wine Sommelier who was able to recommend the perfectly chilled Pinotage to compliment our meal.
Chef George Jardine came to our table after dinner and told us that they are going to be opening Jardine Bakery in the next few days. Situated in the adjacent building the bakery is going to specialize in homemade breads including Soda Bread.
Booking at Jardine Restaurant is absolutely essential.
