Situated between Ashton and Montagu, this was an area of the Western Cape that I was not very familiar with and therefore staying at Mardouw Country House gave me the chance to relax in complete style and still explore the area. Mardouw Country House is fantastic. With only 2 suites and 3 rooms you get the feeling that you are staying in your very own house. The décor is modern and stylish and yet still gives you the sense of being in a country home. I stayed in their ‘ Red Suite’ which comes with its own lounge and fireplace, all rooms at Mardouw have separate baths, showers and toilets. No detail was too small for Mardouw, from the homemade fudge on the turndown to the bottle of Olive Oil that I was presented with on departure. Dinners at Mardouw are delicious, Chef Karen cleverly incorporates local ingredients into the meal, the culinary highlights of my stay being the homemade Olive and Vodka Icecream and her Bobotie Spring Rolls. Mardouw is situated on its own Olive and Wine Farm, and on the afternoon of my second day we took the Mardouw Golf Buggy on an 8km drive through the farm and the reserve. Mardouw packed us an afternoon picnic of Muffins and Hot Chocolate and without much ado we were able to fully appreciate the spectacular and scenic surroundings. Picture : On a Mini Game Drive at Mardouw Country House I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mardouw Country House. Close enough to Swellendam, Barrydale, Ashton and the Robertson Wine Routes its perfectly located to explore the area, or if you are simply looking for somewhere to relax – unwind and be pampered then Mardouw is an ideal choice.
This weekend I took the opportunity to ‘escape’ from Cape Town for the weekend and had the privilege to spend 2 nights at Mardouw Country House.
