Bay Lodge
by Niki Duncan
This was probably our favourite place along our road trip! It’s ideally situated a stone’s throw away from Beacon Isle in Plettenberg Bay. We loved the fact that it is so chic and from the minute you walk in, you know that you will enjoy your stay! Our local host Xola (for those foreigners, you can pronounce this as ‘Cola’ as in Coca Cola…) showed us around and started it off with a welcoming welcome drink and cold towels! The reason we liked it so much was because of the sleek décor and choice of colour – it immediately gives warmth and makes one feel very comfortable. The use of fabrics and texture on the furniture combined with a clean ‘look and feel’ makes it very modern but not ‘cold’. And on top of this, the views are outstanding.
Basically you have all entertainment at your finger tips – it is within walking distance of the Central beach in front of the lodge, and the shopping areas are a close walk away, as are 9 excellent recommended restaurants (not all within walking distance of course). The
Ocean Safaris cruises and boat trips all take place a few hundred meters down the road and if you don’t feel adventurous, then a long walk on the beach is fine too. The breakfast in the morning was refreshing and looking over the beach and ocean, I couldn’t help think that I would love to visit again!
All I can say about
Bay Lodge is that it has it all – Plettenberg Bay always had a special place in our hearts and this only adds to the memories! What can I say, except that my added highlight was having a Lindt choccie on my bed before I went to sleep at night and had sweet dreams…
