Sir David Attenborough has been called a ‘living hero’, ‘the great communicator’ and ‘the greatest broadcaster of our time’. But I just like to call him Davey Boy. Here are some of our ultimate favourite David Attenborough quotes to inspire you.

His fascination with animals, birds, insects and even fossils has helped us discover our own wonder with the natural world. And his ruffled hair and soothing tones ensured he won a special place in the hearts of his viewers.

Beginning with Life on Earth in 1979, Attenborough set about creating a body of work that became a benchmark of quality in wildlife film-making and influenced a generation of documentary film-makers. And to think, this staunch conservationist didn’t initially appear on television because producers thought his teeth were too big.

Attenborough has collected 32 honorary degrees from British universities, more than any other person. He also has the distinction of having at least fifteen newly discovered species and fossils being named in his honour. He is the only person to have won BAFTAs for programmes in each of black and white, colour, HD, and 3D. And I imagine it’ll stay that way too. And, maybe his crowning achievement, in 2013 he teamed up with Slash and Brian May to form a supergroup called The Artful Badger to oppose badger culls.
