Walk with Meerkats

By Craig Harding on October 23, 2007

Tomorrow I am going on an adventure !

My trips away from Cape Town usually involve spending time at luxury lodges, sleeping on 100% Egyptian Cotton Percale Sheets, wining and dining in style and rarely staying at hotels and lodges that are not 4 or 5 star ! However tomorrow is a complete exception to the rule. I’ve had to purchase a blowup mattress, sleeping bag and dinners will be spent braaiing outdoors.

I am flying to Bloemfontein and from there driving to the border of Lesotho were I am spending 5 days helping a friend do research on Meerkats. My friend Wendy Wilson is an expert at habituating Meerkat families and I am going to have the opportunity to spend this time in her company. This will involve walking with the Meerkats, as well as spending quiet time sitting with the meerkat family units getting them use to different people and guests.

I can hardly wait……and of course I will report back on my travels when I return on Monday.
