Sweethearts in Southern Africa – Chapter 1

Our debut duo, Alanna and Nikolas, kicked off their matrimonial adventures in the vibrant city of Cape Town, snuggled in the cosy quarters of Kensington Place. With its intimate atmosphere and accolade as one of Cape Town's top 10 stays by Condé Nast Traveller, Kensington Place is the perfect place to commence an African love affair!

After much exploring, scenic cycling and wine tasting, it was due time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Mother City and embrace the solitude and tranquillity that only the middle of nowhere can muster! Which brings our happy couple to the Greater Kruger's Sabi Sabi Selati Camp

An ode to the great African safari era, Selati recaptures the essence of yesteryear glamour in true luxurious style. Romance abounds as the camp conjures up images of a time when life was a little slower and a lot more indulgent.

“Each venue was spectacular and gave us special attention and treatment for our honeymoon.” – Alanna

Next, our starry-eyed twosome soared off to Zambia's Zambezi River – a pristine and captivating corner where both land and water safaris are on the menu! They spend a few days at one of our absolute favourite secret hideaways, the whimsical Royal Chundu River Lodge.

With breathtaking riverfront views and secluded privacy, this lodge is a fairytale escape for amour, filled with magical island walks, charming sunset river cruises, secret picnics, starry lantern-lit dinners, and a pinch of enchantment!

“We couldn't have made a better choice and will absolutely use Rhino Africa again for our next Africa trip.” – Alanna

Now that Alanna and Nikolas have the culture and safari portions of their trip ticked off – nothing concludes a romantic honeymoon in Africa better than a pristine beach getaway. And having views across the expanse of Mozambique's Vilanculos Bay from a lush, elevated position, Santorini Mozambique is hard to touch.

The steps leading down from their white-walled villa to a secluded stretch of paradise is the perfect final destination. Surrounded by lush forest and the Indian Ocean, the happy couple is provided with utmost privacy and an underwater wonderland with plenty of water and land sports to pass the time.

“And yes! We are absolutely still swooning over the trip, it was the trip of a lifetime!!”  – Alanna

Our next newlywed twosome, Ali and Bobby, embarked on a wild African honeymoon from Kenya to Kruger. Their first stop was the very famous Giraffe Manor, an exclusive boutique hotel that's all the rage worldwide (thanks to its herd of oh-so-rare Rothschild's giraffes).

A stay at this opulent manor is the ultimate way to kickstart your life as a couple. Get ready for a wild time with these majestic creatures, from having your breakfast gobbled up by a giraffe to watching them roam around the manor at leisure – you're guaranteed to have memories that'll last you a lifetime!

Next on the itinerary for our cherished sweethearts was a journey to the heart of Kenya, to the hallowed and revered Maasai Mara National Reserve. Here, tranquillity and intimacy are the essences of the experience, making Mara Bushtops the ultimate romantic destination.

Mara Bushtops is a work of art, seamlessly blending into the picturesque landscape. The luxurious tents, with their ample space and lavish furnishings, are discreetly tucked away along secluded pathways, leading to peaceful, intimate havens. Whether it's a romantic dinner by candlelight, a breathtaking hot air balloon ride at sunrise, or a private bush brunch, the wild lands of Kenya promise to create memories that will last a lifetime.

“There was not one complaint I could lodge about our time in Kenya, South Africa or the intricate travel arrangements in between.” – Bobby

Ali and Bobby's honeymoon odyssey in Africa concluded in South Africa's exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger. Here, they were spoiled with luxurious treats at &Beyond's Tengile River Lodge, where the river views are just mesmerising.

The lodge is perched on the banks of the Sand River, with its views taking centre stage. There are plenty of secret hideaways and cosy nooks. However, the enormous suites reign supreme, each with a private lap pool, spacious private deck and sunken outdoor lounge overlooking the famed Sand River.

“This trip started out as a "bucket list trip" and we thought we'd check Africa off the list of destinations to travel to after this trip, but almost instantly, we realised there was so much more to see and know we will be returning soon!” – Bobby

Blissful in Beautiful Botswana – Chapter 1

David and Amber, our third married duo, took off for a wild and whimsical honeymoon in Botswana. This untamed land teems with natural wonders and a scarcity of human inhabitants, making it the perfect place to bask in the beauty of love and life.

Their first love nest was Xugana Island Lodge, a highly coveted gem in the Okavango Delta. With a limited number of guests allowed, David and Amber got to bask in a more exclusive romance retreat. Perched on a wooden island, the lodge offers days filled with wet and wild fun, like gliding through the Delta's waters on a traditional mokoro or revving it up on a motorboat excursion!

Next up, the honeymooners journeyed further east along the Delta's enchanted waterways to the breathtaking Moremi Game Reserve. Here, in this diverse and captivating land, they resided in the idyllic Camp Moremi, nestled amidst a wealth of wildlife and natural wonders.

Camp Moremi offers a romantic safari unlike any other. A place where you can explore ancient mopane forests, open grasslands, and shimmering floodplains, all while searching for the majestic wild dog, cheetah, leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, and hippo. It's a journey filled with magic and adventure, sure to kindle the flames of love and create lasting memories.

The sweetest sojourn of their honeymoon, David and Amber wrapped up their amorous adventure with a stay at the enchanting Chobe Game Lodge in Chobe National Park. A haven for lovebirds, the lodge sits prettily along the banks of the Chobe River – an enchanted realm renowned for its abundant wildlife.

For a change of pace, the wildlife viewing can also be done from the comfort of a boat, gliding along the serene Chobe River. And what could be more romantic than toasting to your love and happiness on a sunset cruise as the birds serenade and the hippos grunt along? This is the perfect end to a magical love-filled trip.

Wildlife and Waterfall Swooning – Chapter 1

Our fourth and final set of lovely newlyweds, Adam and Skyler, embarked on their blissful union in the bustling burg of Cape Town. Staying in the modern cosy cocoon of The Tree House Boutique Hotel, they were mere moments from the city's finest sights.

After a few days frolicking at the famous Cape Point, searching for sharks in Gansbaai, and indulging in a day of wine-sipping in the stunning Cape Winelands, our darling duo took a fleeting flight to the enchanting Greater Kruger National Park (bracing themselves for a safari like no other!).

"We had several day tours with Ilios travel. All of the drivers were excellent. They shared great information on South Africa and local customs and culture. It was a very nice experience seeing the Cape of Good Hope and wine country (I highly recommend bringing some wine back in your checked luggage)." – Adam

Amidst the lush wilderness of Kruger, our adventurous duo split their days between two dreamy private concessions, namely Timbavati and Sabi Sand. Oh, what sights they saw! The Simbavati River Lodge in Timbavati will leave you spellbound with its dazzling views of the Nhlaralumi River and its wild parade of creatures. Meanwhile, Idube Game Lodge in Sabi Sand promises breathtaking Big 5 sightings that are the talk of the land.

The lodges have a smorgasbord of activities for lovebirds to enjoy, like romantic game drives and bush walks. They also offer romantic picnic spots and candlelit dinners under the stars, a perfect chance to unwind, connect, and soak in each other's company.

“We spent 5 days on safari between Idube Lodge and the Simbavati River Lodge. Both lodges had wonderful staff and great food. The game drives included many up-close encounters with the Big 5. This includes having elephants outside of our room at Simbavati drinking out of the dipping pool.” – Adam

The final flourish of their love story unfolded at the captivating Victoria Falls, a glittering gem amidst the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its unmatched charm and allure, Victoria Falls makes for the perfect finale of any African escapade.

Our sweethearts nestled at the Batonka Guest Lodge and embarked on a whirlwind of romantic excursions. They delved into the magic of the Falls with a comprehensive tour, savoured a delicious lunch, embarked on a spellbinding cruise along the mighty Zambezi River, and soared over the falls in an adrenaline-fueled helicopter ride.

“Victoria Falls was awe-inspiring. A helicopter ride really helps capture the landscape surrounding the falls. We enjoyed a river cruise on the Zambezi and saw an amazing sunset.” – Adam
