History & Heritage Rich Hotel
Over 300 years of history in the making, the five-star Cellars-Hohenort, located in the historical Constantia Valley is one of the most exceptional and renowned hotels in the Cape. One of the things I enjoyed most about my trip to the Cellars-Hohenort is learning the rich history & heritage of how the hotel has become what it is today. It was intriguing to learn all about how the property first started as a farm in the 17th century, originally known as Klassenbosch, to the becoming part of the infamous Liz McGrath Collection as we know it today.

Not only is the hotel historically rich in its infrastructure, but in its surrounding environment too. With over 3 centuries worth of gardening, a variety of flowers, vines, fruit & vegetables and indigenous plants have grown on this land. Dating back to over 250 years ago, some of the oldest camphor trees can also be found in the gardens at The Cellars-Hohenort.
It was both educating and enlightening to not only learn about the history of the hotel, but it’s founding fathers, location and natural history too.
Luxury Comfort in Nature
The accommodation Cellars-Hohenort could be described as a mixture of comfort, elegance, sophistication and luxury. Whether you’re staying in a n entry level room or a villa, the ambience remains the same throughout.
My colleague and the amazing opportunity to stay in the Premier Suite. We were welcomed with delicious cheese and treat boards and a personalised welcome message along with it. This in itself already made the experience that much more special.

Our room consisted of two floors. One the first floor we had a kitchenette, wonderful dining and lounge area and a private terrace with the beautiful gardens as a backdrop. Our lounge area also has a fireplace which proved useful on the cold night we stayed there. The room also has a complimentary mini bar and full tea set for your enjoyment.

On the second floor is the bedroom and bathroom. Both quite spacious and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was modern with a bathtub for a relaxing bubble bath and a huge shower to freshen up. The bathroom was also stocked with lovely products for our use and fluffy bathrobes.
Other accommodations offered by the property include: double rooms, luxury double rooms with a balcony, suites, premier suites and villas more suitable for families or groups.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Conservatory. Offering a classic dining experience of simple meals elevated to a sensational menu, the conservatory definitely did not disappoint. This restaurant overlooks all the garden’s glory. Whether you are on the terrace enjoying a high tea or on a romantic date in the main dining area, the Conservatory has the most breathtaking views -it even has an oak tree encased in the middle of the restaurant making the setting that much more magical.
The menu is friendly for all guests and caters to any dietary requirements you might have. Full of flavour and beautifully presented, my meal was absolutely delicious and will definitely have me coming back for more. Aside from the amazing food and views, I must say what I most enjoyed was the impeccable service and warmth I received from the team. This restaurant is a must.

At the spa, take the opportunity to unwind and pamper yourself with a signature treatment or pop on over to the hair salon to relax and rejuvenate your hair. Amongst all the great amenities and services available, this one is near and dear to my heart. The Cellars-Hohenort is pet-friendly.
