Where honeymoons are concerned it’s not about the location, it’s about the couple. Harrison Ford’s character in Six Days, Seven Nights agreed. He was referring to romance when he declared,
“It’s an island, babe. If you didn’t bring it here, you won’t find it here.”
All I need to rebut this argument is three words: Ponta Mamoli, Mozambique. Send me to the White Pearl Resorts’ hideaway – with practically anyone – and I’m pretty sure I’d fall deeply, deeply, in love. If at any moment, I felt a niggling of incompatibility with my allocated hubby, I’d take one long look at the clear waters of the Indian Ocean, the freshly prepared cocktail in my hand or the sun-soaked day lounger and I’d recover my senses, “Of course,” I’d think, amazed at how easily I’d forgotten the obvious, “we’re perfect for each other.”
The newlywed Mr and Mrs Daniel do not bolster my theory because they were in love long before they headed to Mozambique’s Lagoon Coast (South of Maputo and close to the South African border). Along with their costumes, sunscreen, sun hats and sarongs, they carried with them a natural affinity for one another. And so it was that they enjoyed the best of both worlds: genuine affection and the uninterrupted luxury on Mozambique’s South East coast. Jealousy – bordering on hatred – prevents me from describing the details of just how wonderful a time was had and so it is with a forced smile that I hand over to the Daniels for a personal account of their Ponta Mamoli experience…
