April 12, 2022

Your luxury safari in Namibia starts the moment your private plane touches the landing strip. The azure sky seems infinite on the horizon, the sun illuminating the distance dunes. Your heart flutters like the bubbles dancing in the Champagne flute in your hand. You never knew such remote places still existed, and you can't wait to see them all. As you rise from your seat, you feel giddy with excitement. The adventure is about to begin.

What a (Wildly) Wonderful World

Namibia is probably best known for being home to the oldest desert globally. It also has a unique range of desert-adapted wildlife calling the sparse landscapes home. And with the second-lowest population density in the world, you can expect fewer humans, more space, and more wildlife on your luxury safari in Namibia! Sign us up!

A surreal, dream-like country, Namibia is about the size of Germany. You'll find it on Africa's southwest coast, where exhilarating safari activities in what feels like the middle of nowhere await you. Most luxury lodges are located in very remote locations, which means incredible views and exclusivity.

However, don't fear, Rhino Africa is here! As World's Leading Safari Company, we specialise in luxury safaris in Africa's most remote locations. We'll tailor-make a luxury safari in Namibia according to your wish list and using our first-hand experience. Furthermore, we'll arrange for all the little details that make a luxury safari luxurious. For example, organising private charter flights that land right by your lodge. No wasting precious time in Africa on a bumpy 4x4 ride!

If you're ready to escape the crowds and your own four walls and explore some of Africa's most remote locations, but without sacrificing your high thread count or ice-cold G&T, then Namibia is for you.

What Wildlife Can You See in Namibia?

Namibia's alien-like terrain is home to a surprisingly wide range of wildlife. There's much to see, from four of the famous Big 5 to the iconic oryx antelope, and it has the largest cheetah population in the world.

Furthermore, these animals have become desert-adapted and seem to survive and thrive in even the harshest conditions. It's fascinating to see!

Then there's the coastline of Skeleton Coast National Park, which has one of the world's largest breeding colonies of the amusing Cape fur seals.

And if you look closer, even the small creatures demand your attention (and respect), like the darkling beetle that stand on their heads, quenching their thirst with the early morning fog.

However, when it comes to Namibia, you're really here for the full picture, not just the wildlife. And it's the landscapes that will be a muse to any blocked artist and inspire any poet to write their best sonnets.

Top Destinations for a Luxury Safari in Namibia

A luxury safari in Namibia is fascinating, to say the least. Here's what you can expect from the different destinations we recommend to our guests.

Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is the oldest desert in the world. Probably Namibia's greatest tourist attraction, it's located in the Namib-Naukluft Park. The tallest dune, Big Daddy, is around 325m high and will make you feel tiny in comparison! These dunes are easy to reach and an hour's drive from the park's Sesriem entrance gate.

The dunes are best viewed at daybreak when the tips are drenched in a honeyed light, contrasted against the pale hues of the clay pans at their base.

A highlight is climbing Big Daddy, one of the tallest dunes globally. To see Sossusvlei from the sky, you can go on a sunrise hot air balloon ride for a magical experience! Regardless of how you wish to explore Sossusvlei, we can ensure an exceptional luxury safari experience like no other.

Etosha National Park and Surrounds

Once upon a time, the seemingly endless Etosha pan was an ancient inland sea. Today, it's a wildlife haven. Located in Namibia's 22 750km² Etosha National Park and covered with a thick layer of algae across the surface in the summer, the Etosha pan attracts flocks upon flocks of birds. The park is home to over 340 bird species and over 114 mammals, making this a dream luxury safari destination in Southern Africa.

The variety of vegetation found in the park is striking. It nourishes various game while also sheltering endangered species like the black rhino, black-faced impala and tsessebe antelope.

Etosha's limited water sources become crowded with competing wildlife in the dry season. Therefore, this is also the ideal time for game drives and wildlife photography. The park is easy to reach via a private charter plane from the capital, Windhoek.

Damaraland

Damaraland lies between the Skeleton Coast in the west and Etosha National Park in the east. Famous for its Petrified Forest, you can marvel at the large tree trunks that have famously "turned to stone" over time.

This region lures travellers with many activities. These include tracking wild rhino, hiking up the Brandberg Mountain to view the famous "White Lady" Bushman painting, and marvelling at other engravings at Twyfelfontein. Or you can go on early morning and sunset game drives and visit the geological wonders of Spitzkoppe and Vingerklip.

Damaraland delights with wildlife in a unique setting

In Damaraland, you'll find little to no permanent water sources. Yet, miraculously, animals like the black rhino, lion and elephant are capable of roaming vast distances in search of food and water sources, being well-adapted to the desert landscape.

On your luxury safari in Namibia, you can do as little or as much as you like. The various luxury lodges and spas in the area cater to every traveller's need for relaxation. At the same time, there are also plenty of exciting activities for those in the mood for adventure.

Caprivi

The Caprivi is a thin strip of land that makes up the northeast region of Namibia. Six local tribes call the area home, and it shares its borders with Angola, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Chobe, Kwando, Linyanti and Zambezi rivers surround this strip of land.

A river brings relief to the Caprivi National Park

Caprivi's appeal lies in the untouched nature of its surroundings. Many of the luxury lodges are located on the banks of the Zambezi River, encompassed by marshy forests and rich waterways. Therefore, they offer various water- and land-based activities to explore the area up close. The area is home to plenty of bird species, four of the Big 5, and an extensive list of antelope and game species.

Skeleton Coast

Skeleton Coast is an otherworldly location where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Although the term "Skeleton Coast" once referred to the entire Namibian coastline, it now relates only to the sweep of land situated within the Skeleton Coast National Park. This park consists of 500km of shoreline, stretching from the Ugab River in the south to the Kunene River in the north.

A bird's-eye view of the Skeleton Coast

Back in the day, sailors passed along Namibia's coastline to and from India. Due to the high winds, rough seas and thick morning mist along the coast, many ships never made it to their destination. As a result, a ship graveyard was born, known as "Skeleton Coast".

Skeleton Coast is a natural phenomenon, offering views of the whales, seals and sea lions frolicking in the ocean. You can also see lions, giraffes, springbok, rhinos and baboons further inland. The landscape is cinematic in its topography, ranging from mountainous dunes to lichen fields and beaches to riverbeds. We highly recommend an aerial helicopter tour for a bird's-eye view of this maritime cemetery.
