Challenge4ACause 2024: After The Damaraland Dust Has Settled

By Brad Mitchell on July 22, 2024

The dust has finally settled (and been scrubbed off) after Challenge4ACause 2024. As with the 12 previous iterations of the event, it was hugely successful, challenging and rewarding for all involved. So let’s take a closer look at what unfolded in Damaraland over the course of this year’s Challenge4ACause.

The team of Challenge4ACause riders

Challenge4ACause was the experience of a lifetime

Challenge4ACause 2024 by Numbers

Let’s start by crunching some of this year's numbers.

5 Days of Riding

Each day on Challenge4ACause typically varies between 40 and 75km in distance, meaning that riders spend between four to seven hours in the saddle, depending on various factors.

These might be the difficulty of the route, the terrain or what the the team at Cycletec feel is the most suitable form of punishment they'd like to subject the riders to.

300+ km Cycled

The total distance covered by riders during Challenge4ACause is always variable and up for debate. It can depend on how far in the wrong direction you went, how badly David has gotten you lost, what point your e-bike ran out of battery or whether you decided 40km wasn’t enough riding for one day and decided to double up “just for fun”.

19 Riders

The participants in this year’s Challenge4ACause were a mix of grizzled veterans who were into double digits of completed events and nervous rookies who were brand new to mountain biking – let alone doing it in the desert of Damaraland!

Our brave 19 riders joined us as industry partners, business associates, friends, family and a healthy smattering of Rhino Crash members.

4 Beneficiaries

The four beneficiaries of Challenge4ACause 2024 are causes close to our hearts at Rhino Africa and we have longstanding relationships with each of them.

R5 Million in Fundraising Targeted

With the help of various initiatives and the generosity of staff, friends, industry associates and partners, Challenge4ACause 2024 aims to raise R5 million for our beneficiaries.

We're exceptionally grateful to all who contributed and have put the “Cause” into our challenge thus far. Cumulatively, Challenge4ACause has now raised over R24 million since its inception.

The terrain is unique, and so is the experience

Whether it was indeed the last ride remains to be seen, but you can rest assured that anyone connected with this year’s event will be fiercely campaigning for its continuation just as hard as they worked on the bikes.
