Well here’s something different… And it’s about time too.

Mobile gaming is all the rage worldwide – and it’s a great way to reach millions about a message that really matters. Enter: Rhino Raid.

What’s this all about?

Brought to you by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) South Africa, WWF Rhino Raid is an exciting sidescrolling runner that tells the story of Rad the Rhino and his quest to save his species by outwitting poachers. Over half a million people have downloaded Rhino Raid so far.

Developed entirely in Cape Town, this new mobile game app was created in the name of rhino conservation awareness. Flint Sky Interactive and WWF South Africa wanted to do something about the scourge of rhino poaching in South Africa and so Rhino Raid was born, as a way to communicate the anti-poaching messaging and facts about rhinos, while debunking myths behind the consumption of rhino horn. Players also learn more about the supply chain that’s feeding the demand for rhino horn.

It costs $1 (about R10) and money raised from it goes to WWF, one of the world’s largest, most respected independent conservation organisations, who will distribute it to rhino project managers, including Wildlife Act, and counter poaching initiatives.

Flint Sky Interactive is a team of individuals based in Cape Town who use their skills and experience in the communication, design and advertising industries to focus on innovative projects that can change the way the world thinks about and responds to environmental and sustainability issues facing our planet.

Helping to create the WWF Rhino Raid app were internationally renowned illustrator Kris ‘Kronk’ Hewitt and musician Markus Wormstorm.

“We are proud to be developing a unique homegrown solution to address a very serious South African problem.”
– Athol Moult.

“It is becoming increasingly recognised that games can positively influence behavior change; accordingly, the game will be localised into Asian languages in target countries. Rhino Raid is set to be both an entertaining game and a source of informative facts.”
– Dr Andrew Baxter, Head of Business Development at WWF.
