From its incredibly unique architecture to its eclectic decor and extraordinary views it possesses, the Silo Hotel is a unique hotel situated in the centre of Cape Town towering over the V&A Waterfront. It has recently opened and is quickly establishing itself as an iconic hotel that you most certainly should not pass up an opportunity to stay at.

There are a few amazing aspects to the hotel that you should know about:
A brief history
The grain silo building was built in the 1920s and at the time it was the tallest building in sub-Saharan Africa. The building has two parts to it – the elevator, where the hotel is now located, which used to facilitate the mechanical handling of the grain; and the actual storage silos themselves. Grain was moved from places all over South Africa, concentrated and stored in the Silo before being put on boats and shipped off to Europe. The last shipment of grain was on board the M/V Angel Wisdom in 1995 and operations in the Silo ceased in 2001.
Unique Architecture
The Silo sits above the rest of the V&A Waterfront giving it a 360-degree view of its surroundings. The pillared windows, which bulge outward as if gently inflated creating a dome-like design. These windows transform the building into a glowing lantern at night and when stepped out into, give guests up, down and side-to-side views of the extraordinary scenery that Cape Town has to offer.
Eclectic Decor
The hotel is a unique and incredibly intimate hotel. It contains 28 rooms that are individually designed and decorated using a spectacularly broad range of sources. Using a few modern pieces and various colours throughout, luxury was fitted into the industrial design of the building in order to preserve its original look.

Cape Town is a city that offers an endless list of possible activities, from taking the cable car up Table Mountain and walking through the exquisite gardens of Kirstenbosch to shopping and eating at the world-renowned V&A Waterfront, overlooking the most surreal harbour. The Silo, being in the centre of Cape Town, is the perfect place to stay as it is situated so centrally.

The Silo building is not only home to the Silo hotel, but also to the Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. The museum is opening in September 2017 and is going to be a world-class institution that will rival the likes of the Tate Modern in London, the MoMA in New York and Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.
