An African safari powerhouse, the Serengeti is host to one of the largest animal migrations in the world. We share a selection of our favourite photos of the Serengeti to get you itching to start planning your dream luxury African safari. So, let's begin, starting with...

A group of cheetahs lounges on a mound in the dry grasslands of the Serengeti
Cheetah Antics
Cheetahs climb "play trees" or termite mounds to get an optimal vantage point for spotting prey against the horizon. They are one of my favourite species to photograph in the Serengeti as they always put on a show!

My favourite part of the day is sunset, and even more so when I'm in the Serengeti
Surreal Sunsets
No matter where you stay in the Serengeti National Park, you'll enjoy incredible sunsets. The rich colours make for the ultimate photos, and you'll find yourself just staring and staring while you enjoy an ice-cold G&T on your game drive stop.

Thousands of wildebeest and zebras gather on the banks of the Mara River during the annual great migration
The Great Migration (Seasonal)
The breathtaking spectacle known as the Great Migration is one of the largest overland migrations globally and is listed as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. However, be sure to plan your trip with a trusted tour operator. Since this is more of a journey than an event, you need to know precisely where to be and when.

Space, Space, and More Space
If you want to escape the city and clutter of modern life, look no further than the Serengeti, one of Africa's premier wildlife sanctuaries. It offers vast open savannahs stretching as far as the eye can see, and you'll feel so incredibly free.

Large Elephant Herds
In the Serengeti, gentle giants roam the savannah and disappear into the woodlands. I will never tire of seeing elephants amble through their natural habitat. They seem so wise, so incredibly bonded as a herd, and the little ones are so funny to watch as they learn how to use their trunks!

Float serenely over the treetops on a hot air balloon safari in the Serengeti
Hot Air Balloon Safaris
A Serengeti balloon safari is the ultimate way to enjoy a different (and the most impressive) perspective of the Serengeti National Park. Often, you'll end with a bubbly breakfast under an acacia tree to really soak in what you just experienced.

Lion Prides
Ah, lions. One of the most requested animals to see on a safari game drive. And rightly so! I especially love it when the newborn lion cubs follow their mom around, so curious and playful.

Scenic Serengeti plains teeming with wildebeests and zebras
Diversity of Wildlife
The seemingly endless Serengeti plains are filled with exhilarating wildlife and show you just how vast the ecosystem in East Africa really is. Although headliners like the Big 5 are always a must, you'll be surprised by how many other species, big and small, steal your heart in the Serengeti.

Affectionate zebras in the Serengeti
Wildlife Behaviour
You might be lucky enough to witness various animal behaviours in the Serengeti, especially zebras, which are well-known for expressing their love for each other. On your game drive, your guide will share fascinating stories and insights about the daily lives of our beloved African animal kingdom.

Culture and Community
One of Africa’s most well-known tribes, the Maasai for its unique culture and tribal wear. During your stay in the Serengeti National Park, you'll get to learn more about their way of life, as well as marvel at their jumping dances and colourful clothing.

The kori bustard, one of Serengeti's iconic birds
Fascinating Birdlife
The diversity of birdlife in the Serengeti is impressive and makes for a refreshing addition to your trip. For example, this kori bustard advertises its presence in an impressive courtship display. If you're a birder, rest assured you'll have plenty of feathery creatures to spot here.

Towering Giraffes
Giraffes just seem more magical when seen against that classic Serengeti backdrop. These supermodel-tall creatures are another one of my favourites since they really stand out and are graceful yet somehow also awkward on those long legs.

Luxury Lodges and Tented Camps
Although it's wild out there, the national park is home to ultra-luxurious lodges designed to give you the best seat in the house to admire the Serengeti's wildlife shows. Make sure to book in advance to get the best possible experiences.
