So I ran the Two Oceans Half Marathon on the 7 April and completed it quite successfully. The fact that I completed my fourth Half Marathon makes me feeling quite proud and yes, I will do it again, the Two Oceans Half that is – maybe in a few years I will attempt the Full Marathon (56 km). Running the 21.1 km took me 2h35 minutes, which is not my best time, however I felt a great sense of achievement, along with the other estimated 11,000 runners! I will admit that I wanted to do a better time than this, however there were several things that hindered me from getting a good start. Firstly, the start was incredibly slow. Well, you can imagine with 11,000 people starting, depending where you are situated, it can take around 2 – 4 minutes after the gun has gone off to run over the start line. Secondly, I drank too much liquid before the start of the race and therefore about 3 km into the race I had the urge to have a pit stop, which took another few minutes off my time, so ultimately from the beginning time was against me. However I enjoyed the atmosphere and the vibe, with millions of Cape Town’s locals cheering you along the way, you can’t really feel too bad. But I will admit I was very relieved to finally cross the finish line! Here’s to the next Two Oceans race.
