Day Tours with Rhino Africa

By Matthew Sterne on July 11, 2013

Go Rhino Tripping in Cape Town!

While we send travellers from all over the world on exciting luxury safaris and island holidays in Africa, we also have a special Wheels Division called Rhino Tripping that takes our guests on day tours of Cape Town and its surrounds.

These day tours are perfect for those wanting to learn something more about the history of Cape Town and to interact with its residents. The benefit of guided tours is having expert knowledge on hand and of course… someone to do the driving. We offer a variety of exciting day tours – from trips to the city’s museums and nearby townships to time in the water on a shark cage diving excursion!

  • District Six Museum – Find out more about Cape Town‘s history on a tour to the District Six Museum. It will take you back to a time when District Six was a thriving mixed community, before residents were forcibly removed by the apartheid government. You will get a first-hand account of what life was like here from tour guides who are also ex-residents. Wander in the recreated streets and experience what the area was like in the 60’s – from the reconstructed Barber shops to a collection of pictures taken before the removals.

  • Arts & Crafts in Langa Township – Cape Town is surrounded by townships – and they’re well worth a visit. Visit Langa, one of the largest townships where community projects are successfully transforming the area into a productive society, full of budding entrepreneurs. The community centre is filled with arts and crafts created by the students who attend ceramics classes there. You can even get involved in a drumming circle.

  • Khumbulani Day Care Centre – Go on a day tour to the Khumbulani Day Care Centre in Khayelitsha, the largest township in Cape Town. The centre, run by Gloria Bebeza, takes care of over 160 HIV infected or affected children daily, from 0 to 13 years of age. Khumbulani is one of our favourite charities that we support every month – they are some of the best-behaved kids we’ve met and their smiles will leave you with a warm heart. Khumbulani also includes an integrated job skills programmes to generate income through the gardening project. Handy tip: Speak to your guide if you wish to make a donation to those less fortunate.
