Horn to Tail Insights into Rhino Africa’s Culture

June 6, 2023

Previously, we delved into Rhino Africa's commitment to diversity and inclusive company culture in our blog "A "Crash" Course on Inclusive Culture." Now, in the spirit of our all-embracing values, let's hear what the members of our Crash have to say about Rhino Africa's culture. Here's what it means to be part of our family.

Rhino Africa is a place where every individual is treasured

1. What Makes Rhino Africa's Culture so Incredibly Diverse?

"One of our founding principles is that Rhino Africa should be a place where everybody’s able to be the best version of themselves. That, in itself, attracts a diversity of culture." – David Ryan, CEO and Founder.

Luke, our Marketing Maven, emphasises that true diversity starts at the top. Our CEO sets an inspiring example as a champion of authentic representation. Being a married gay man with a disability, he embodies the diversity that pulses through our organisation. And guess what? Our leadership team follows suit, showcasing a dazzling mix of genders, races, religions, languages, and sexual orientations.

Cayleigh, our Journey Navigator, shines a light on how Rhino Africa's unwavering commitment to diversity has fostered a powerful moral compass within our team. This shared commitment nurtures empathy and understanding for the unique challenges and lifestyles that each member of our Crash brings to the table.

Building upon Cayleigh's insights, Gerhard, our Connection Craftsman, recognises that diversity not only thrives within the Rhino Africa team but also extends to the guests we serve. Our extensive client base is a testament to our unyielding dedication to inclusiveness as we embrace and relate to a wide range of lifestyles.

This profound understanding allows us to forge genuine connections with our guests, providing personalised experiences that deeply resonate with their unique identities.

2. What sets Rhino Africa's Company Culture Apart from Other Travel Companies?

"We all aspire to the same purpose. And the purpose is to make a difference, just like diversity makes a difference. We're all rooted in the fact that we want Africa to succeed, communities to be uplifted, and our wildlife to be protected. That's the glue that binds us together." – David Ryan, CEO and Founder.

Waathiq, our CSO Virtuoso, delves into the inner workings of our beloved Rhino Africa. He unveils a hidden gem – a meticulously crafted credo, a manifesto that binds us together. But here's the kicker...it wasn't forced upon us from above. Oh no! The Crash, our dynamic team, collaborated and sculpted this guiding light, by us, for us.

This credo serves as our North Star, illuminating our path and uniting us in pursuit of a common goal. It's our unwavering commitment to making a positive impact that sets Rhino Africa's culture apart and makes our company truly exceptional, says Waathiq.

This deliberate unveiling fosters a deep sense of connection and appreciation for why Rhino Africa is nothing short of an extraordinary workplace, where dreams come alive and magic happens.

Michelle Welvering

Growing up, Michelle always wanted to become a world-renowned artist, a kickboxing-champion and an eccentric explorer – aka a Kickboxing Exploring Artist! After pursuing an education in Fine Arts and opening her own Kickboxing gym in Pretoria, an unexpected twist led her to a six-year stint as a travel consultant in South African tourism. She believes that all things happen for a reason and, driven by adventure, she was eager to find a more “wild” and cultural space to call home. This led her to wander the Western Cape coastline, fall in love with the city of Cape Town and, of course, her workplace, Rhino Africa.
